Active Maternity Fitness & Nutrition Group
Sources of Motivation and Points of Pride
Jennifer Clancy, M.A.
Dr. Sears Certified Health Coach and Independent Beachbody Coach
Blending Beachbody Active Maternity fitness programming and Dr. Sears L.E.A.N. Expectations Pregnancy Coaching into one engaging week together, I felt so grateful to host and bear witness to these women as they supported one another’s journeys towards a healthier, better nourished pregnancy and motherhood. These women are all mothers who work in or outside the home as teachers, nurses, sales reps, consultants, coaches, etc. who also desire to stay active, fit and healthy as they grow their babies in womb and in arms. Striving to balance it all takes strength, resolve and a love undefined. I am so very proud of their motivation and know their families are, too! High five, mamas!

For me, I struggled with prioritizing my own health as equally important to those around me. I sacrificed for others and didn't realize I was hurting myself. Everything about my coping, nutrition and healing ability withered by the time I didn't feel right. It happens so quickly. I knew during pregnancy that healthy nutrition was good, but didn't have the energy to focus on it; thought I'd be fine. "Look how so & so turned out and her family is fine!" I realized later that "fine" was not what I was striving for. "Fine" kept me alive, but at cost. Fertility and general health begin and end with how we nourish and nurture ourselves. I learned self care was required unless I wanted someone else to fill in what I lacked, or not be fully present because I was too tired. It took sacrifice of a different kind to reprioritize my health so to become optimally involved in my and our family's lives.
After having my second, I found that I was grabbing at whatever was available since I was starving all the time while BFing. I knew I needed healthier snacks and meals. After ordering my shakeology, I was pressured (jk!) into joining a challenge group. I loved having time that was just for me and about me at first. Now I love that I am stronger and healthier and my habits are rubbing off on the family (I have to beg my son to take bites of pasta so he can have more carrots!!)
I used to be amazing at working out!! I always played tennis and went to the gym 5 times a week. Then, I had so much trouble getting pregnant with my first that I quit all workouts (I incorrectly thought that was the reason). I had two pregnancies pretty close together and then bam I had three kids under the age of 2. I had no time to workout so a friend suggested I try t25 and I fell in love. I love being healthy and having more energy for my kids!!!
I was finding it really hard to lose any of the baby weight and just felt like I was barely making it through my days. So this summer after seeing other moms add fitness to their lives with little ones I decided to give it a try! I started with t25 and shakeology and absolutely love it! I feel like a new person! I've lost almost 30 lbs in 3 months and have so much more energy! Now I feel like I can enjoy playing with my girls and be an awesome role model of health for them. So important not to lose sight of yourself when you enter the all consuming world of parenting!
Pre-kids era I had no problem working out either! Spinning, weight lifting, running, I was a gym rat. I still have my gym membership but never go! It's hard to say goodbye to it but I find I'm the most successful with at home workouts. Right now having a child and pregnant again I struggle with finding time for myself and I too will snack sometime on what's easiest and most convenient. It's all a work in progress still. I haven't figured any sort of routine out and I know it will change again once I deliver this baby.
I also struggled with prioritizing any time for myself after having children. I didn't think there was any way to fit in time for me until my first challenge group and it literally changed my life
I am my best self when I take some time for me. After having #2 I knew that trips to the gym would vanish and I needed to prioritize. I lost 25# in four months doing t25, combat, and 21 day fix all while nursing my son whom is now 10 mo old. Love these groups!
My problem had always been diet. I feel like I have no time to meal plan, shop, prep and cook. I honestly don't know how people do it. I've read books about it. My sister has a "cook day". But I don't know how to do it. Especially now. My one-month-old still eats constantly. Constantly.so I always go for the easy, usually less healthy choice.
I struggled for a long time after I had my son bc I had a ton of excuses and no real tools or confidence to do something to make a change. I felt trapped. I hit bottom last February... I have a thyroid disease and we couldn't try for another baby until my levels stabilized. My son was turning 4 and I realized this might be it, so no excuses. I borrowed P90X from a friend and totally committed. Half-way through I learned about shakeology and challenge groups. 20 pounds came off, I enjoyed exercising and making healthy meals and then this summer my dr said we could try bc I was super healthy and my levels stabilized. Now I'm 11 weeks pregnant. The first trimester was exhausting and I was always nauseous so my goal is to get back into my routine in the next few weeks.
